Take turns dropping discs. First to connect four in a row — horizontally, vertically, or diagonally — wins.
Click a column to drop your colored disc. Discs fall to the lowest available row in that column.
Line up four of your discs in a row across any row of the 7×6 grid to win.
Stack four discs in the same column to win. A common trap for beginners — watch your opponent's columns.
Four in a diagonal line also wins. The hardest to spot — always check both diagonal directions.
Simple to learn, full of traps to master.
Connect 4 looks simple, but it is a game of traps and counter-traps. The single most valuable habit is controlling the centre column — discs placed in the middle take part in the most possible winning lines across horizontals, verticals, and both diagonals, so claiming the centre early gives you the widest range of options.
Always scan for your opponent's threats before chasing your own. If they have three in a row with an open end, blocking is mandatory or you lose on their next turn. The real winning move is the double threat: set up a position where you have two separate ways to complete four in a row at once, so your opponent can only block one of them.
Be careful not to gift your opponent a win — dropping a disc can create a winning square directly above it for them. Diagonals are the most commonly missed wins, so check both diagonal directions every single turn. Plan two or three moves ahead and you will steadily force your opponent into no-win positions.
